The CDC's Department of Health and Human Sciences is accepting applications for a Lead Research Health Scientist. The incumbent will serve as a team leader providing professional senior-level health scientific activities support and expertise for designing and conducting research focused on identifying, analyzing, and reporting on emerging public health issues and problems as it relates to occupational safety and health. 


  • Designs, plans, and initiates health scientific studies, surveys, and investigations.

  • Identifies and analyzes public health issues and their impact on public policies or health scientific studies or surveys.

  • Authors or coauthors manuscripts or technical reports reflecting the results of the research and arranges for publication of such documents after approval by appropriate reviewing officials.

  • Prepares complete, accurate, concise, and clear reports relating to the project area and presents the results ofresearch efforts in appropriate scientific journals or at scientific meetings.

External Occupational Health and Safety Positions

The California Department of Public Health is recruiting to fill the Surveillance Epidemiologist position in the Occupational Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (OLPPP). OLPPP is a multi- disciplinary team that provides services statewide to prevent and reduce lead poisoning in California workplaces, including tracking blood lead levels in adults; investigating work-related lead poisoning cases; and providing information and technical assistance to employers, workers, physicians, and others.

The Surveillance Epidemiologist conducts statistical analysis of OLPPP data; disseminates data analyses to stakeholders in reports and presentations; and uses data findings as the basis for recommending projects and interventions to be undertaken and prioritized by OLPPP to reduce occupational lead poisoning in the state.

This position is located in Richmond, CA. However, telework (remote) may be considered.
