About the Course
This course on pesticide illness surveillance is designed to help medical professionals recognize the symptoms of pesticide poisoning. Learn how to diagnose and treat pesticide illnesses, including illnesses due to cholinesterase inhibiting pesticides.
Although this course was originally developed for health care providers in California, much of the information will be applicable to health care providers elsewhere.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:
- Define pests and pesticides as stated by California law
- List potential ways someone can be exposed to pesticides
- Describe ways to diagnose pesticide illness
- List waysto recognize and treat illnesses resulting from exposure to cholinesterase-inhibiting pesticides including organophosphates and N-methyl carbamates
- List physician requirements for reporting a pesticide related illness
