Matthew Gribble is a board-certified toxicologist (Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology) and environmental epidemiologist. His research program supports ocean health, clean water, and environmental justice. Prior to joining UCSF as its inaugural Associate Chief for Research in Occupational, Environmental, and Climate Medicine, he was a tenured Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Gribble’s research program spans multiple continents, and much of his domestic work is in partnership with sovereign Tribal nations. He works with the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency trainees to inculcate epidemiologic concepts and best practices for research. He is also the co-editor of a widely used textbook for the meta-discipline of Oceans and Human Health (ISBN 9780323952279) and founding director of the UCSF Center for Oceans & Human Health.
