Sadie Costello, PhD, MPH, is an occupational and environmental epidemiologist at the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley, and Director of COEH's Targeted Research Training ProgramTargeted Research Training Program.
She was recently quoted in a New York Times article outlining how public health professionals and epidemiologists are safely planning summer vacations with unvaccinated kids. Dr. Costello, who has two children, ages 10 and 14, explained her two planned road trips and said, “It’s a balance between COVID safety and mental health.”

Dr. Costello also participated in this year's COEH Builds Bridges Symposium, which focused on Interdisciplinary and Ethical Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. She was joined by Jim Araby, UFCW Local 5, and Matt Bell, UCFW 324, to discuss COEH's research on the Implementation and Impact of COVID-19 Prevention on the Health of Unionized Grocery Workers.
About Dr. Costello:
Dr. Sadie Costello has studied a range of chronic disease outcomes, including heart disease and cancer, in relation to particulate exposures in light metal manufacturing, metalworking fluids in automobile manufacturing, and to diesel exhaust and silica in miners. She has focused on methods to address healthy worker survivor bias and on using large administrative datasets to answer causal research questions.
