Primary Areas of Work:
CEREAL focuses on occupational health, labor rights, and human rights across global supply chains, with a strong emphasis on manufacturing sectors such as electronics and automotive. The organization works primarily with unionized and non-unionized workers in Mexico, including women workers and aging workers, addressing ergonomic, physical, psychosocial, and organizational occupational health risks.
Goals of Project:
OPTION A
To support CEREAL in translating global occupational health research into locally relevant tools and materials by contextualizing findings on occupational risks in electronics and automotive industries for use with workers and unions in Mexico.
OPTION B
To support field-based occupational health research focused on aging workers in the automotive and electronics industries by assisting with data collection, systematization, and preliminary analysis under CEREAL’s supervision.
Intern Expectations:
OPTION A
- Review and synthesize global research on occupational health risks (ergonomic, chemical, and gender-related) in electronics and/or automotive industries.
- Support the adaptation of research findings into educational and advocacy-oriented materials for workers and unions.
- Participate in internal meetings with CEREAL staff to discuss the relevance and application of research.
- Contribute to a short written product (brief or report) aligned with CEREAL’s ongoing OHS work.
OPTION B

Necessary Skills:
OPTION A
- Graduate-level training in public health, occupational health, or environmental health.
- Strong literature review and analytical writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and communicate findings clearly.
OPTION B
- Graduate-level public health or occupational/environmental health training.
- Basic understanding of research ethics and human subjects’ protection.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Recommended Skills:
OPTION A
- Experience with gender analysis or labor studies.
- Spanish reading comprehension (helpful but not required).
- Interest in global supply chains and worker health.
OPTION B
- Experience with qualitative or mixed-methods research.
- Familiarity with occupational exposure assessment concepts.
- Spanish language skills (preferred but not required).
As an intern, you will:
OPTION A
Provide a concise research synthesis or briefing document tailored for use by CEREAL in training, advocacy, or future research initiatives.
OPTION B
Provide a short technical memo or data summary contributing to the final DWOI project report and worker-oriented materials.
