On-Demand CME Course: Eating Well in Practice

This course will help you make nutrition counseling one of the most practical—and powerful—tools in your clinical toolkit. In this fast-paced, one-hour online CME course, learn to assess diet-related risk, uncover food-related social needs, and deliver clear, culturally responsive, evidence-based guidance that patients can realistically use. Build skills in behavior change, mindful eating, bias-aware communication, and planet-forward food choices to help patients improve health without prescribing a one-size-fits-all diet.

Move beyond “eat more vegetables” and turn nutrition counseling into an energizing part of everyday care. Eating Well in Practice offers ready-to-use tools for partnering with patients to uncover realistic, culturally meaningful food-related changes that fit their lives, support disease prevention, and improve health—one doable step at a time.

This activity meets the nutrition and metabolic health CME requirement: one hour of continuing medical education focused on nutrition and metabolic health.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Develop simple, actionable, effective, and culturally responsive nutrition and food recommendations tailored to individual patients’ needs to support disease prevention and treatment.

  • Screen for social determinants of health impacting diet and food choice and make appropriate referrals.

  • Assess a patient’s risk for diet-related conditions, such as metabolic syndrome, with a brief diet and food history, anthropometric measurements, and laboratory tests.

  • Explain, in clear and culturally responsive language, the nutritional value of common foods and ingredients and how food-processing methods may affect health outcomes.

  • Utilize evidence-based models of behavior change to effectively partner with patients to improve dietary patterns and health.

  • Guide patients through various mindfulness techniques to support healthier eating patterns.

  • Identify foods and production techniques that benefit both planetary and human health.

  • Explore one’s own biases about food, obesity, exercise, and “healthy eating.”
