Research

Education and socialization in the responsible conduct of science is an essential aspect of research training at the UCSF SON. The research training program in OEHN at UCSF occurs primarily at the PhD level; however, MS students are required to take 7 units of course work in research (N262A/B: Advanced Scholarship in Research Part I and II, and N212C Epidemiology). This coursework prepares them for careers as advanced practice nurses, with the foundation to understand and implement scientific findings to support evidence-based practice. MS students are also encouraged to participate in our faculty research projects. Every year, one to two MS and/or PhD students work with Drs. Alkon, Bates, Hong, Lee, and Wagner as research assistants, or in research rotations. These practical experiences provide further opportunities for students and OEHN faculty to discuss research criteria.
